faq about the band

what is MSB?

MSB was 2AM's original name from their inception until December, 2004. It stands for "Matthew Scarborough Band," and was used at the time because the group originated solely to help Matthew record a solo album rather than to function as its own musical entity. It was later changed to 2AM to avoid any confusion with the Michael Stanley Band, and also because Matthew preferred that the band's name represent the band as a whole rather than just him.

what about the miscellaneous/unreleased songs?

Matthew and Andy Winters (2AM's original bassist) played together in a band called "Screaming Silence" before MSB was formed. During a practice, guitarist Josh Gabonia suggested that the band do a cover of "Puff The Magic Dragon." Matthew didn't know the words, so he went home later and wrote a marijuana-based parody of the classic: "Puff The Magic Dragon (Very Carefully)". While it would be completely legal for the band to release it commercially, Matthew has so far deemed that it be a concert-only number out of respect for the original song's composers (Lenny Lipton and Peter Yarrow), who both, during its heyday, vehemently denied that the song was about marijuana.

"Last Time" is a song written by Matthew and Andy in the summer of 2002, while they were still members of "Screaming Silence." It marks their first-ever songwriting collaboration; the first they did for 2AM was "Home Is Where The Heart Aches."
